Student/ Parent 1:1 iPad Information

To further support Gordon County Schools commitment to providing students with the tools necessary to compete in an increasingly technological world, Gordon County Schools is pleased to announce its district-wide 1:1 technology initiative, which will put an iPad into the hands of each K-12 student in the school district.

Parents may complete the iPad deployment form in advance at the below "Sign off" link.

ONE TIME insurance fee of $25 is due in order for the student to be able to take the device home.

 * Schools will not collect this $25 insurance payment each year.*

* The fee covers each year the student attends Gordon County Schools.*

· Families unable to pay the $25 insurance fee at this time may do so at any point throughout the school year.  There is no deadline. Scholarship forms are available from the school. 

Once you receive your iPad, please complete the following THREE tasks:

Students, today you will complete 3 tasks on your iPads. First, you will change your passcode to your 5-digit school ID. Second, you will create a lock screen with your name and your advisor’s name. Last, you will update your iPad to iOS 11. If you already know how to complete all three tasks with no questions, then please feel free to complete them INDEPENDANTLY during this video; however, do not talk. Other students may need help with one or more tasks. Again, the 3 tasks include: changing your passcode to your 5-digit school ID, creating a lock screen with your name and your advisor’s name, and updating your iPad to iOS 11.

 

Task 1: Change your passcode to your 5-digit school ID.

  • press the home button
  • tap Settings
  • on the left side, press Touch ID & Passcode
  • If you have not already entered a passcode, then tap Turn Passcode On on the right side of your screen.
  •  If you have already entered a passcode, then follow the prompts and press Change Passcode
  • Everyone should see this box
  • tap Passcode Options
  • tap Custom Numeric Code
  • enter your 5-digit school ID
  • if you get this message, click Use Anyway
  • enter your code again

Your new passcode is now set.

 

Task 2: Create a lock screen with your name and your advisor’s name.

  • press the home button
  • go to photos and find a picture to use as your lock screen. You can take a selfie or change your photo later.
  • press Edit (in the top right-hand corner)
  • press the 3 dots at the bottom of your screen and tap on Markup
  • add your name and your advisor’s name to your photo. You can write or type this information. If you want to use text, then click on the circled plus sign.
  • Once again, simply enter this information now and you can go back later and change it.
  • when finished, press Done
  • press the share icon (the square with an arrow pointing up)
  • at the bottom of your screen, tap Use As Wallpaper
  • choose lock screen or both

Your new lock screen is now set.

 

Task 3: Update your iPad to iOS 11

  • press the home button
  • go to Settings
  • on the left-hand side, tap General
  • on the right-hand side, tap Software Update
  • if there is an update available, tap Download and Install
  • follow the prompts
  • if your iPad has already been updated, you’ll see this message
  • it may take a few minutes for your iPad to update. If it won’t update right now, then try again later today.
