SHS Annoucements 3/20/17 Monday


*Clara Hulsey traveled to Brunswick, GA to take part in a Southeastern Junior Tour golfing event at Brunswick Country Club. Clara played against some very tough competition and did very well. Clara finished 4th overall shooting a 77 on day 1 and an 85 on day 2. Clara will be back in action for the Phoenix on Tuesday, when she takes part in the Lafayette Invitational in Lafayette, GA. The Phoenix Boys team traveled to Canyon Ridge Golf Club on Saturday to participate in the Gordon Lee Invitational.  This was the teams first tournament of the year and first 18 hole match of the year.  The team scored a 352, which was good for 9th place.  Lane Strickland had the low round for the Phoenix with an 80.  Blake Rouzee was very close with an 81.  Ryan Redd finished with an 87, while Destin Summers shot a 104.  Also competing for the Phoenix was Alex Naymick who shot a 108 and Cody Grantham who came in with 113.  Both Alex and Cody played their best golf of the year.


*Congratulations to Allie Childers, Elizabeth Busby, Ariana Jaramillo, Georgina Trenti, and Elizabeth Hurst! They traveled to Athens last Thursday-Saturday to compete in FCCLA’s state events. Not only did they receive GOLD medals, they are in the TOP 2 IN THE STATE OF GA for Chapter Service Project and Illustrated Talk! These ladies represented SHS well!  All 5 will compete at Nationals in July!


*The Phoenix Varsity Baseball team traveled to Haralson Co. Friday night and won in a back and forth affair by the score of 14-13. Tyler Lyles got the win for the Phoenix on the mound, but had a big night at the plate going 2 for 4 with a grandslam homerun to help bring the Phoenix back from a 5-0 deficit early in the game. Storm Carnes and Avery Hopper also had a big night at the plate, both going 3 for 4 on the night. Matthew Vincent also hit an in the park homerun, adding to the Phoenix scoring on the night. The Varsity are back in action this Tuesday, traveling to Bremen for another region matchup. Go Phoenix! 


*This Saturday, your SHS Girls Trio and Dramatic Duo teams competed in the State Literary Competition in Warner Robins. It was a tedious and stressful day, but, as every proud Phoenix does, we rose to the top! The SHS Girls Trio team placed 1st! They are STATE CHAMPIONS!!!! They also make SHS history in being the first Literary event to earn a state championship! Savannah Hames, Madeline Fox and Katlyn Sexton are now the proud owners of gold medals. In addition, after a hard battle to state and surprises while at state, the Dramatic Duo team placed 2nd!  Katie Hartel and Arisah Argueta are STATE RUNNERS UP!! They received silver medals.


*Gordon County-Young Leaders Society Color Run is Saturday, March 25th at the Sonoraville Recreation Department. They will have a 5K and 1 mile run/walk for all ages.  For more information call the Gordon County United Way or register online at All proceeds benefit YLS Gordon County and United Way.


*The deadline for submitting volunteer/community service hours for the 2016-17 school year will be Friday, March 31st.   Forms are available in the counseling office, and they should be submitted to Coach Vaughn. To earn the Phoenix Community Service Award, students must complete a minimum of 100 hours of community service over their four years in high school.  To earn the President’s Volunteer Service Award, students must have completed at least 100 hours in the past year.   

*Project Prom Dress will be held March 25th from 10 am to 2pm at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church on the Red Bud Rd. for any young woman needing a prom dress and shoes. 


*Middle School Track Practice schedule will be: Monday-Practice at SHS 4-5 pm. Tuesday-Meet at Gordon Central High School. No shuttle bus back. Wednesday- No practice. Thursday-Practice at SHS 4-5 pm. Friday-Practice at SHS 4-5 pm.


*Any senior needing a copy of their immunization record for college can come to the nurse clinic to pick one up.


*If you were inducted into the BETA Club last year – in the Spring or the Fall – and you have NOT picked up your t-shirt please see Mrs. De Guire. If you are senior Beta Club Member and you have not paid for your cord, please see Mrs. D e Guire or Mrs. Watson to pay your dues.


*There will be a SHIELD meeting after school today till 4:30.
