            Classes will be either at Gordon Central HS or Sonoraville HS.  Students must have their learner’s permit by the first day of class.  30 hours of classroom instruction is required – make sure you can attend all class days before deciding on class dates that you would best fit your schedule.  Any class days missed, must be made up during a future class.  The 6 hours of driving time will be scheduled on an individual basis, based on each student’s schedule and availability. 

Classes are open to any student that has their learner’s permit – regardless of where they go to school. 

Classes will be either at Gordon Central H. S. or Sonoraville H. S. and will last for 8 days from 3:30 until 7:30.

Class Schedule

At G.C.H.S.:        Oct. 16, 17, 18, 24, 25, 26, 30 and 31

At S. H. S.:         Dec. 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13 and 14

At G.C.H.S.:       Feb. 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14 and 15                   

At S.H.S.:           April 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25 and 26

(Students will need to bring paper and pencil / pen to each class.  They will also need to bring their learner’s permit with them.)

Cost:  $ 295

A deposit of $50 or more will need to be turned in with the application and the balance will be due on the first day of class, if paying for the class.

The Gordon County Schools Driver Education Program is now a proud authorized provider for the Georgia Driver's Education Grant Scholarship program sponsored by the Georgia Driver's Education Commission. All high school students in Georgia will be able to apply directly for driver's education opportunities due to a new grant scholarship program created by Georgia Driver's Education Commission. Georgia residents between ages 15-17 years old actively enrolled in school possessing a valid driving permit are eligible for the student driver's scholarship program.  Students who enroll in the program will have at least 30 hours of classroom training and six hours of training behind the wheel. Students approved for the scholarship will have the entire costs of the class covered by the scholarship.

To apply for the Georgia Driver's Education Grant Scholarship, visit www.georgiadrivers.ga.gov and click the link "Student Login." Enter the username "student" and password "student" to login and begin. Once approved, you must email the redemption code, a copy of the student's driver's license and the application to Robin Wilson at rwilson@gcbe.org. 

Driver Training School Program Certification Numbers:  GCHS – DT480 and SHS – DT481  

(The first 25 applications with deposit/scholarship will be assured a spot in a class.) 

Students that do not attend the first class day of the requested class must reschedule to another class date.

Behind the Wheel Instruction Only

 Behind the Wheel Instruction can now be taken with the GCS Driver Ed. Program

Cost will be $225

Full payment will be due with the application.

A copy of the certificate showing the 30 hours classroom/online course completion must be submitted with the application

An application can be printed at gcbe.org – click on the “Students” tab then the Driver’s Education button.

The application and deposit can be dropped off at either school (see Ms. Steward at GC or Ms. White at SHS) or at the Transportation Dept. on Dews Pond Road (see Ms. Robin Wilson).  A contract will also be required and can be picked up and/or filled out at the Transportation Office when the application and deposit is dropped off.
