After the incident in Parkland, FL, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School has sparked a concern and has been in the hearts and minds of the student’s at Sonoraville High School.  In response to the planned "Walk Out", on March 14, SHS faculty and staff challenged students to instead “Rise Up & Walk Up" on that day. Tomorrow our students will be given an opportunity to show solidarity for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High. In addition, we invite all students, who wish to participate, to join us in a moment of silence and a “Rise Up & Walk Up” 17 minute hallway walk and banner signing. Banners will be sent to Parkland, FL to express our sympathy. The banner will also serve as a pledge to build a stronger foundation with our peers.

“Walk up to the kid who sits alone at lunch and invite him to sit with your group; walk up to the kid who sits quietly in the corner of the room and sit next to her, smile and say “Hi”; walk up to the kid who causes disturbances in class and ask how he is doing; walk up to your teachers and thank them; walk up to someone who has different views than you and get to know them - you may be surprised at how much you have in common. Build on that foundation instead of casting stones.”   -author unknown.
