Education

Dear Parent(s):

During the 2017-18 school year, Gordon County Schools will give computerized tests called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®).  The purpose of the tests is to determine the students’ instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year in the areas of English/LA, Reading, and Math.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing.  And with MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth.

At SHS, all students enrolled in Foundations of Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, 9th Grade Literature, and 10th Grade Literature will take a MAP test 3 times during the course: beginning, middle, and end.  Following each testing period, a report showing your child’s growth will be available.

We are truly excited to begin a new era that focuses on every child’s individual growth and achievement. Partnering to help all kids learn, parents and teachers can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.  For more information about MAP, visit the following website: www.nwea.org/resources/a-parents-guide-to-map/

Sincerely,

Amy Stewart

Bio

As a product of the Gordon County School System, I am proud to say that I'm entering into my 19th year of teaching, 17 of those at Sonoraville.  I coached 13 of those 17 years, but have stepped down to spend more time with my two children and their recreational activities.

I have taught all three grade levels at middle school level, but my primary focus was 8th grade math until this current school year, where I have had a chance to move into the traditional high school setting of 9-12 and teach Algebra and Advanced Mathematical Decision Making.

My husband Steven and I are proud residents of Gordon County and our oldest son, Brodie, is a 5th grader at Sonoraville Elementary.  Our daughter, Brynn, is at SES in Kindergarten.  Phoenix Pride runs strong in our family and red and black are staples to our wardrobe, not only in support of the Phoenix Nation but also Atlanta United FC and Arsenal Soccer!
